The St. Nikolaus Gut Hirt Zug association cares for and maintains the Samichlaus tradition in Zug. Its roots go back to 1982, when the Gut Hirt neighbourhood association (Quartierverein Gut Hirt) first organised Samichlaus visits. St. Nikolaus Gut Hirt Zug has existed as an independent association since 1995.
More than 25 members volunteer their time for families, schools, associations, institutions and companies — in the canton of Zug and beyond.
Non-Profit Purpose
Contributions from Samichlaus visits and costume rentals fund the association’s running costs as well as the care and renewal of its costumes. Any surplus is passed on to non-profit institutions, in particular organisations for children and people with disabilities. Wherever possible, we deliver these donations in person. You can see which organisations we support on the Costs page.
Origins of the Tradition
Samichlaus is the Swiss St Nicholas and is accompanied by two Schmutzli. Read more about the history and meaning of the tradition on the Swiss Samichlaus Tradition page.
